Shape the Future of Breast Imaging

If you’re a breast radiologist looking for more than just volume and RVUs, you’re in the right place. At the University of Kentucky, breast imaging is central to cancer care in the Commonwealth. As home to Kentucky’s only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, UK HealthCare serves as a referral destination for complex cases from across the state. That means meaningful work, real collaboration and the opportunity to practice at the top of your field.

Major Investment in the Future

  • Three new ambulatory imaging centers opening in 2026
  • A brand-new Cancer and Advanced Ambulatory Care building opening in 2028, including dedicated breast imaging space and a breast care clinic
  • A new east-side medical office building with additional mammography and ultrasound capacity
  • New PACS platform installed December 2025 with remote reading capabilities

An Academic Mission That’s Protected
A lot of institutions talk about balancing clinical care, education and research. Very few truly support it. Here, you’ll have protected non-clinical time to pursue what drives you whether that’s teaching, research, service line development or leadership. Faculty receive mentorship, sponsorship and incentives that reward both clinical performance and academic contribution. If you want to grow into leadership inside the department, across the College of Medicine or in national societies, that path is supported.

Compensation That Reflects Your Expertise

  • Assistant professor base salary: $505,000–$535,000
  • Higher compensation for associate professor and professor ranks
  • Annual incentive target: $60,000–$90,000
  • No strict RVU requirements
  • Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance available
  • 200% retirement match, increasing total compensation by approximately 10%
  • College tuition assistance for dependents

Fully Integrated, Multidisciplinary Breast Care

Breast imaging at UK HealthCare is embedded within a collaborative care model. Imaging suites and reading areas are located near surgical and oncology clinics. Weekly tumor boards are standard. Operational meetings focus on improving patient flow and experience. You are not interpreting in isolation; you are part of a coordinated team working toward better outcomes for women across Kentucky.

The department supports more than 50 active clinical trials annually. Faculty publish extensively and are invited to present nationally and internationally. If you want to build or expand an academic portfolio, the infrastructure is already here.

National Recognition and Accreditation

UK HealthCare holds prestigious American College of Radiology recognitions and breast imaging staff rank in the top 25% nationally for patient experience, because culture matters here.

  • ACR Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence
  • ACR Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center
  • ACR Mammography Accreditation
  • ACR Breast MRI Accreditation
  • ACR Breast Ultrasound and Ultrasound-Guided Breast Biopsy Accreditation
